Stories of our Hands |
"Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." Martin Luther King Jr.
Here at Our Norwest, our students recognise the value of service. Living a life in service of others is something they're encouraged to do regularly. To use their God-given gifts in the service of others is a pivotal aspect of Building a Purposeful Life. A lifestyle developed by their capacity to do and learn incredible things outside of the classroom.
Our students are regularly reminded that they have a significant contribution to make to this world. That they are called to step beyond passivity and be pilots of their own learning. That their life has meaning and purpose.
In November 2022, a group of Year 10 students volunteered to visit a Mission Housing Australia site and served their community with a variety of projects, including furniture building, painting and gardening.
Mr Joshua Baissari said that it was a privilege to see our students serving in this capacity. "They were polite, helpful and hardworking throughout a hot day and represented the College without grumbling or complaining." Students enthusiastically and whole-heartedly served the residents from this community, with a Christ-like attitude.
So, what did the residents think? Unprompted, one resident shared this with Mr Baissari:
"I don't know if it's you guys, the school, or their parents, but...these students are just wonderful."
What an incredible blessing to our staff to hear. That the investment from our staff, parents, family members and friends is collectively making a profound impact on our young people.
We, at Our Norwest, want to encourage you too, that you also have a unique place in this world that only you can fulfil. So keep practicing a life of service. It will not only bless those you serve, but it will also bless you as you shift your eyes and focus onto a greater need.
